Esther Friedman

ALEMANYA

Born in Germany, Friedman moved to Berlin in 1974, where she quickly became a key figure in the city's vibrant art scene. In 1976, she met and fell in love with the American singer Iggy Pop, who had recently relocated to Berlin with David Bowie in an attempt to escape his personal and artistic turmoil. At 155 Hauptstrasse, where they lived in the Berlin-Schöneberg neighborhood, a district rich in Turkish immigrant culture, Friedman documented the fascinating nightlife of theses years, drawing inspiration from the city's decadent atmosphere and its echoes of the Weimar Republic. Her images, drawn from her personal archives, capture the societal transformations that defined that era.

Friedman's photographs stand out not only for their historical significance but also for the deep personal connection they reveal between the artist and her subject. After nearly 50 years, these images are exhibited for the first time in Cadaqués, offering a rare glimpse into the Berlin's vibe in the late 1970s.
